Photo Gallery Annual Garden of Remembrance 5 Nov 09
Started in 1928 and now known as the Field of Remembrance the event is an annual event organised by The Royal British Legion Poppy Factory. All proceeds that arise from the event are donated to the The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
The field is opened on the Thursday before Remembrance Sunday and remains open until Sunday following Remembrance Sunday for visitors to pay the respects. Remembrance plots are organised by Service, Corps and Regiment. In 2009 there were 259 plots. The plots for all Irish Regiments of the British Army, both past and present, are sited alongside each other just west of the North Door of Westminster Abbey.
The 2009 opening ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness The
Duke of Edinburgh.
Following the open air service of remembrance HRH reviewed all
the remembrance plots.
The photographs, taken as HRH approached the plots of the Irish
Regiments, were provided by Don Dickson and will display as
an Adobe Flash Player slide show.
When you have finished viewing the photographs just close the slide
show window.
